Dunstane Hotels are located only a mile and a half from the wonderful Edinburgh Zoo. There is a bus that stops just outside the hotel that goes straight to the zoo in only 5 minutes - it could not be more convenient!

Edinburgh Zoo is owned by The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and opened in 1913 and is set in 82 acres of sloping parkland. Edinburgh Zoo is one of Europe's leading centres of conservation, education and research. It is one of Scotland's biggest attractions, second only to Edinburgh Castle in terms of paying visitors, with over 600,000 a year.

In one day, you can see over 1,000 animals. Edinburgh Zoo is the only zoo in Britain to house koalas, as well as being the first zoo in the world to house and to breed penguins. Edinburgh Zoo is perhaps most famous for its penguins, including Sir Nils Olav II, the mascot and Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian King's Guard. Nils Olav II was knighted in 2008, a process which involved the approval of King Harald V of Norway.

The Zoo is open every day of the year including Christmas Day is a perfect day out for all the family if you are staying at either of Dunstane Hotels. Admission prices include a donation to the Budongo Chimpanzee Project (in Uganda) and are £15.50 for adults, £11.00 for children, concessions £13.00, although various family tickets are available. Parking costs £3.50 unless you are a member.
