Royal Yacht Britannia

Explore the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith Docks

After touring the world and welcoming the titled and privileged aboard, the Royal Yacht Britannia has now settled into its permanent home in the port of Leith. From the State Dining Room and private royal bedchambers to the interpretation centre in Ocean Terminal, this truly is a five-star attraction.

The yacht was originally launched from Clydebank in April 1953, being officially commissioned in January 1954. With masts over 40 metres high and over 120 metres long, the ship served as the last Royal Yacht until being decommissioned in December 1997. In that time it had sailed over 1 million nautical miles, visiting 135 countries and hosting, amongst others, US Presidents Eisenhower, Ford and Reagan.

Britannia is now permanently moored in Edinburgh's historic port of Leith and visitors can discover what life was like on board the ship for the Royal Family and crew.

Admission costs £10.50 for adults, but there are various concessions for students, senior citizens and children (under 5s are free). Opening hours are seasonal and their website suggests you allow at least 1.5 hours to see everything.

Royal Yacht Britannia's own website is royalyachtbritannia.co.uk.
